Things you might not know...

What is a nut quad?

Nut quad is a term used in letterpress printing (and sometimes in the modern type world). Nut quad is another name for an en space, which is a piece of lead used in composing type. There is also an em quad, which is often referred to as the mutton quad. Mutton and nut quad were used by printers to avoid confusion of en or em when discussing typesetting. A mutton quad is typically a square measure of type as shown in the diagram below. A nut quad is usually half as wide as an mutton quad.

Alston seems to have a slight cleft in his chin and a dimple in his left cheek. Both of which are extremely adorable. We'll see, if he grows out of these traits or not.

We were just wondering about that-- I'm surprised those terms never cropped up in my past life as a printer. I got my start as a proofreader in one of mighty (boring) RR Donnelley's composition departments.

Interesting you chose 'nut quad' and not 'mutton quad'
