Look, there in the sky....

it's a bird, it's a plane....it's a glowin' thing in the sky?!

The forth of July proved to be a fun-tastic day for our little family. We started off the day exceptionally early, which we thought might set the stage for a double nap kinda day (aka late afternoon power nap before the fireworks!!)

After some breakfast and nap #1, we headed out to the Oakland Aviation Museum. Beyond Alston's continued interest, we thought up close airplane viewing might help mount some excitement for our upcoming east coast air flights. The museum is small and quirky, filled with a few historic planes and some retired Navy jets. The admission price is a bit steep but it seems to be dollars well placed, as it seems volunteer run mostly with low attendance. We felt good about supporting this odd local museum, even though at times Alston found the gravel under the planes more interesting.

We could even preview the passenger airline seat experience.... (looks like I'm in for a fun flight, eh??)

After an afternoon of airplane excitement and a quick swim in our neighbors kiddie pool, we thought Alston was destined for nap-ville....alas, not so. Despite his refusal to sleep and dooming us to a potentially disastrous outing, we forged on into the fog...with blankets and popcorn in tow to watch the fireworks!!

There was some time to kill, so there was some strolling, popcorn munching and playing with swirly light toys.
The waiting seemed long and chilly but we cuddled under blankets. And when the show finally started it was a pretty awesome sight. After the initial confusion wore off, Alston was thrilled by the spectacle, muttering "pop - pop" along with the visual blasts.

It was a pretty late night for some of us, especially without a nap but it was well worth it. We were left a little bit stunned by the visual stimuli.

But it was great day enjoyed by all!!!

Thea, your face in the picture with Alston on the plane seats is priceless!
