There has been a great deal of holiday hype about hot cocoa, hot chocolate and the like. Nearly every holiday book worth reading mentions consuming this taste beverage. Alston listens dutifully as characters swoon with delight in the pages of the stories....yet he has no idea what they are talking about.
Today, after a rainy, foggy, bitterly cold ride on the steam trains, we felt a hot cocoa experiment was in order!! We ordered up a bit of melty chocolately beverage and I poured some in a smaller cup for Alston to sample. He seemed curious and a little excited after being reminded of all the holiday books with hot cocoa references(in particular "Little Bear" from the Sweet Smells of Christmas). The temperature caught him a bit off guard. He licked his lips a bit considering it for a moment while making yummy noises. And thought we were done for....we'd surely have a hot cocoa crazed child from this point forward. He tried made a few more attempts, all received with little fan fair! Shocking! Overall, not terribly interested! It sat in the cup getting cold.... wha????
That was Alston's first hot cocoa - 3 sips.
